Goals of School of Information and Data Sciences
Data science is an academic discipline of theories and methodologies that makes full use of computers to discover new knowledge from vast amounts of data and apply this knowledge to society. Information science is an academic discipline that seeks to elucidate the mechanism of intelligent information processing, which has been thought to be unique to humans, aiming at artificially realizing this mechanism. Interpreting our world through data to obtain new ideas, and then implementing these ideas in the form of systems and services. Only by studying these two slightly different disciplines in an integrated manner can we truly contribute to the society of the future. This is what we call “information and data sciences.” A thinking foundation for understanding subjects mathematically, programming skills to manipulate computers at will, and an open mind to collaborate with experts in different domains and countries. The application areas in which such predispositions of information and data sciences are needed will continue to expand. School of Information and Data Sciences will contribute to the realization of a society where everyone can lead a fulfilling life through education, research, and human resource development, while actively collaborating with industrial, local, and international communities.
